Hello from Mrs. Selmi!
Thank you for visiting our school website! I am honored to be able to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the principal of St. Mary’s School! My name is Melanie Selmi and I have the privilege of leading the students, staff and families of this remarkable school.
St. Mary’s has a rich history of providing an excellent, faith-filled Catholic education in the Sterling Deanery of the Diocese of Rockford since 1913. I invite you to take a glimpse of our school community by accessing the quick links on our website.
St. Mary’s school focuses on the teachings of Jesus Christ and His Gospel. Our students experience abundant graces through daily prayer, religious instruction at all grade levels, weekly mass and celebration of the Sacraments. Our school is a center of learning with excellent teachers who carry on the important tradition of Catholic education everyday while still maintaining rigorous teaching expectations and practices aligned with the New Illinois Learning Standards and well as the Diocean Learning Standards.
As a principal and mother, I realize the education of children is a difficult job and cannot be accomplished without a strong relationship between home, school and the community. We all need each other. We are especially grateful for the loyal support of our parish and school family, who commit to providing a strong Catholic education for our students. Thank you for the financial support of our school through contributions, tuition and fundraising.
We are stronger than ever! We have an incredibly postive and forward thinking school culture here at St. Mary's. We are always looking for ways to be innovative and offer our students an exceptional faith-based education. With your support, we can merge our aspirations and create an environment where our children will excel and learn to be lifelong learners. Please never hesitate to contact me with words of praise, concerns or a need to serve. I would love to hear from you and consider myself a servant leader.
In closing, I would like to thank our Pastor, The Very Reverend Father James R. Keenan VF, faculty, staff, students and parents for giving me the opportunity to work in such a wonderful school. I will work diligently to continue to provide an excellent educational experience for the students of St. Mary’s School.
In Jesus' name, we pray, teach, learn and serve.
Yours Respectfully,
Melanie Selmi
Principal
