JOB OPENING- Our 1st-grade teacher Ms. Ferris is relocating and will be leaving us at the end of this year. We have enjoyed having her as part of our staff and we are proud of the job she did during her 1st year of teaching. We are now hiring for a full-time 1st-grade teacher for the 2022- 2023 school year! The application is posted online. It can be accessed from our website under JOB OPENINGS.
STAFF CHANGE FOR 2022-2023- We are happy to announce that Mrs. Teresa Gingrich will be reassigned to be the 5th-grade homeroom teacher for 2022- 2023!! Mrs. Gingrich is taking on this group with a positive attitude and many years of 5th-grade experience! We have filled our 3rd-grade position and we will announce that teacher as soon as possible.
P.E./SKATING– Students in Grades 1-8 will begin skating the week of April 25th. PLEASE send crew-length socks to wear with their skates – we don’t want blisters!! Thanks to the moms who volunteered to help with their children’s class.
FIRST RECONCILIATION– Congratulations to our 2nd graders on making this special Sacrament today.
SVCC IMPACT PROGRAM– Beginning April 29, parents may sign up their students for the Impact Program. Eligible students are those students who will be entering as a freshman at area district schools. Please go to svcc.edu/impact/
FIRST COMMUNION– will be Saturday, April 30th at 11:00AM. Students should arrive at Bales Hall at 10AM for individual pictures. Group photos will be taken in the church after Mass. Please keep the students and their families in your prayers as they prepare to receive this Holy Sacrament.
MAY CROWNING – will take place next Wednesday, May 4th, prior to 8:30 Mass. 8th Graders may wear their graduation clothes to school for Mass and graduation pictures. They will then change into uniforms for the rest of the school day.
8TH GRADE GRADUATION PICTURES – will be taken after Mass on Wednesday, May 4th.
FIRST COMMUNION RECEPTION – will be held in Bales Hall after Mass on Wednesday, May 4th. Communicants may wear their 1st Communion clothes to school for Mass, attend the reception n Bales Hall, and then change into their school clothes for the rest of the day.
WACC CAREER QUEST – 8th graders will attend Career Quest at the Whiteside Area Career Center on Thursday, May 5th. Students, accompanied by Mrs. Mason, will tour the facility and learn about the programs they offer as they are sponsoring summer time “camps”.
ACCELERATED READER PROGRAM- Each 2nd through 8th-grade student was challenged back in August to earn a minimum of 10 reading points for the year in order to attend the "Principal's Challenge Event" to be held in May. Parents: PLEASE encourage your child to join us in the fun while strengthening their reading skills. The last day to take an AR test that will count towards admission to the "PCE" will be Friday, May 6th. We REALLY want everyone to be able to attend! Also, to be eligible for a year-end award, students should have an average comprehension score of 85% or higher.
HOME & SCHOOL – is putting together a fantastic week for our teachers for Teacher Appreciation Week May 2nd – 6th. Please keep an eye out for an email from H&S. In addition, H&S sponsors many events for the school. If you are a parent who can’t always make it to school for activities, this group is for you! Many times, it only requires sending items to school to help out! Our website (smsterling.org) includes a home page for H&S and lists some of the events they sponsor. Please log into your accounts and see if you are missing any new or updated requirements. If you don’t have an account set up yet, please indicate you are “new” and use 2train! as the password.
